Anyone know the max power available since i want to keep all the number matching, I think this may be a rarity one day

Was thinking doing the following

Stage one kit
Fast road cam
Roller Rockers 1.3 or 1.5 ratio
Twin su carbs
gas flowed head with larger valves

Any idea what the above might push out after being set up.

thanks in advance

Well the John Cooper Converted 998cc Minis were similarly equipped and they pushed out around 60bhp: -

and it WILL feel very nippy...I had similar (albeit a tuned original 998 cooper engine) spec, and it was quicker than my stock 90's 1275 cooper.....a revvy little bu**er.

Have fun

Really depends on your final drive ratio. Some 998s have 2.95 diffs as standard and nippy isn't the word!

If you want to take the engine out to do this work then it's worthwhile thinking about a change of final drive if you have something particularly tall, or if you want something short - what do you want, comfortable cruising or faster acceleration. You should go 3.1 for the former or 3.44 for the latter with a 998.

What model Mini is it?

Most Mini City E's (up to 1989?) had the 2.9 diff and so did the Mini 25 LE.

Apart from that they came with the 3.1 diff as standard.

Put your engine number into this and it will tell you what you have: -

i would say mid to high 60's maybe 70's if you have a good'un and will depend on what sort of cam or cylinder head you use.

Well if it's a Mayfair then it should be a 3.1 diff.

But switching to a 3.44 diff would be best since acceleration is the most important factor here.

i personally would pocket the block and have a decently worked mg metro 1275 head :) a nice cam like the sw5,286, mspd ph3, i wouldnt bother with the twin carbs, but its upto you. if you go for a single...hif38, nice little stubstack and k&n on the back :dontgetit:

3.1:1 final drive ratio, centre oil pick up pipe

and paint it :(

nice 60+

*i defiantly didnt say hif44* :(

A HIF38 carb would be enough for a 998cc?
