Hi, i have a 1965 mini on twin leading drum brakes, fitted with reverse rim wheels! I need to upgrade the braking options but would like to maintain the look of the car......

I have heard that 7.5" disc setups have a differnet offset to drum brakes, and that this would cause me to fit wheel arches (something i do not want to do). However, someone has suggested that the old 7" cooper disc setup has the same offset as the drum brakes and that this would allow me to keep my current wheels? I have considered, and even purchased, a pair of non-spacered minifins, but these do not fit behind these 10" wheels (apparently the only 10" wheel they will not fit behind  ).

Any advice apprecitated,

Cheers, Rich

Reverse rims are designed for drum brakes....

If you want the wheels to stay under the body arches when running disks (of whatever variety - and I would not suggest going to cooper 7" disks as they are worse than twin leading drums for braking efficiency ) you only choice is Cooper S rims ( either original or replica ) or 10" rostyles as used on the GT.

This is a picture of mine which is on reverse rims and cooper S 7.5 disks, compare to one running minilights and cooper S disks aswell..... they stick out

I'll be facing the same problem in the future with my Van as I'll be using reverse rims too. Wouldn't the 145/70 fit under the arches though?

Cheers for all the quick replies.

So, just to clear up, do the cooper s and rostyle rims have a different offset to my wheels which allows the fitment of cooper s discs that do not require arches? Here are a few pics of mine, just so that i am sure i am telling you the correct wheels that i have, sorry im newish to all this.

If that's on drums in the photo, then they are reverse rims... Actually you can tell visually that the hub cap is deep set into the wheel ( by approx 1 inch which is the difference in offset between the reverse rim and the Cooper S rim )

This is a replica cooper S rim with hub cap....

You can see how the cap is almost protruding from the rim of the wheel

In fact, here's a very good comparison

On the left is a Cooper S rim, and on the right a Reverse rim...

Visually they look very similar, and infact they are the same rim, it's just the center hub is attached the opposite way round ( or reversed ). The outer side of the cooper S rim is down where as the outer side of the reverse rim is upward in the picture

so when attached to the car ( both wheels shown below with the hub face downwards ) the rim is reversed on the reverse rim..

Wow, thanks for that! Photos and everything! Much appreciated, that was what i had kind of presumed, but no one had actually explained it properly like that. Cheers again. So now all i have to do is find myself a set of cooper s rims and some 7.5" disc setup, lol! That should be easy then.
