Last monday becky crashed Elsie. We had spent altogether about £1000 on restoring etc

We starting repairing on Saturday and in a day the rear subframe, raidus arms and brake pipes all replaced. Steering rack and rods? These have all been done by a member of the local mini club and he is not charging us for these parts.r. Wings, a panels and front panel taken off. Bought some new ones, inner panel etc all costing me £100.00.

on closer inspection, the scuttle panels filled with filler. so this has to come off and be replaced with a heritage panel because they are a better fit. another £80.00.

There is a lot of welding by the bulkhead.

I cant give up on Elsie ! I have paid to have her fixed. Would you have done this or would you have given up and do as advised and have her scrapped.

OK not sure exactly what you've spent

Way I read it is you spent a £1000 restoring it, then crashed it.

And have now spent £180 buying parts to repair crash damage, plus a few free parts thrown in, and free labour by the sounds ??

By my reckoning that still puts you on the right side of being worthwhile repairing, I know people spend a lot more, but I think you have to be realistic and say how much do I need to spend and what sort of Mini can I get for that sort of money.

We brought a non runner 12 month ago £200, spent £1300 on parts & paint (inc panels), labour was free, so we got a good condition solid 1989 mini for £1500 by the end of it.

minis are getting a good price second hand, you would have to pay a lot for another mini and you would prob get a whole load more problems and rust, the price you have paid for parts and repair compared to other cars (my nissan was £600 for a rear plastic bumper outer not painted).
