okay, sooo... brought the mini on monday, stereo worked fine. then broke down a little later.

been in for service, and has had a new dizzy cap, sparks,leads and the earth and live (i think) that go to the battery have been made safe (with the use of a crimp). but it seems that they changed round the cables to the battery for the stereo. so now brown goes to negative and earth goes to positive. i swapped them round but still no luck


can someone tell me, what way round they should be? and what can i do to sort out the problem of it not turning on.\

Cheked if the fuse has gone? Sounds like the cables have been crossed at some point..

Also. 90% of stereos have a "reset" pinhole button on the unit, usually on the side or top so you will have to fully remove it. If your car has had the battery disconnected, or gone flat, or sometimes if you have had a jump start, the stereo has an inbuilt system to stop any problems by shuting itself down. Get a nail or pin, find and press the reset button and try that. May not be that, but have had a few people with the same problem that this has helped.

earth to negative? earth to positive?

live? (brown) to positive? live to negative?

Think most Minis are negative earth, if it's a 92 then it should be.

brown/ black is negative and red is positive also is there a direct live going to the stereo ? most stereos have a a crossover or jumper to to connect the yellow and red together try that if it still doesnt work try the stereo in a friends car to see if the problem is the stereo

it was put in badly, real badly


its working now, turned out to be the fuse in the back of the unit.
