Hi please help my car is pulling to the left when driving, i have just had the tracking sorted and it was well out bt is sorted now but it is still pulling to the left!!

also it pulls to the left when braking, i have recently put new pistons in the calipers and new Green stuff pads!

help im confused :S

sounds like the caliper could be sticking, is the passsenger side disc getting hotter than the drivers side?

or it could be the drivers side caliper is seized totally - i had that and i could exit stage left very well if i braked hard!

Well it won't have been the tracking, however far out it won't cause a car to consistantly pull to one side.

As above, it sounds like the off side brakes aren't comming on properly and the near side are sticking on.

can be a lot of things, as already said, brakes, wheel bearing, CVs, differing castor and or camber angles, different front tyres and or pressures, worn ball joints.

Check tyres and pressure, odd tread wear
then both wheels spin freely
then grab wheel top and bottom and check for play

i have just had eactly the saem thing as you, pulling to the left, and worse when you brake, i had all the brakes apart, bleed them, made sure the pistons move freely, i also have green stuff pads, and also just checked the tracking which had been very slightly out.

so i put it on a rolling road brake tester as per mot station, and sure enough brakes are working perfectly, i can only put it down to a steering geometry problem, i measured the track length and it is slightly shorter on the left (5mm)

it is worth pointing out that i use the 10" jap cooper s alloys/steel wheels on my mini which do have a big offset, so any geometry problem is exagerated by the lever effect the wheels have by sticking out so far

i took the tie rods off and checked them for straightness,and to see they were both adjusted to the same length, which they were found to be fine, so the difference in length could be the tie rod mount on the front subframe?

anyway i didnt have chance to look it it for about a week, and only today i realised it wasnt doing it anymore? i dunno either!

have your wheels ballanced!!! that can throw the car sidewards, and make sure the hub nut its tightened up, summink like 120nm,

Agreed - tracking *doesnt* cause the car to pull - tis a myth

um - not in my experience it doesnt...


pulling is usually down to the castor angle being mis-matched, usually a bent tie-rod, or bent mount on subframe, knackered rubbers too..

My metro does this, although thats because ive knocked the caster out on one wheel where i crashed it, trackings spot on, but it still pulls.

Might be worth while checking everything is still aligned correctly.
