I dont want to be a kill joy, i love a good blast down country roads, but today i was in the tractor (quite a large one), and some nut job in a saxo came round the corner far too fast, having trouble to control it, and almost ran straight into our front wheel, if he had, it would have been the end of his car, and probly the end of him! most modern tractors brakes are pretty good, but when theres a good load on the back of them, its going to take a lot of force to stop them completly! so please just be aware and take care on the roads this summer! i really dont want to hear through other farmers or on here somebody has written their car off or has been injured or worse through crashing into one! but at the same time, have fun! because i probly wont be, as i got to work while the big shows are on!

dont think that will go down well with the gaffer! although my dads mate got his mates to raid the field in WW2 vechiles last year! we had them chasing after us in the combine with a willis jeep and troop carrier! would be awsome to do that though! any other midland farmers on the forum!?

Yep, I'll second that. Up in Wiltshire where I lived for 20 years there were flat fields, few hedges and long open bends and plenty of warning of what was ahead, but here in S Devon among the high hedgerows you never know what you're going to meet round the next blind bend. And believe me there's plenty to choose from -- tractors and other assorted farm machinery, cyclists, horse riders, ramblers, deer, badgers, foxes, pheasants, guinea fowl, chickens, cats, dogs, old people, prams, cows, sheep (escaped), old men in flat caps driving Micras at 10mph, buses at bus stops, grockles stopped to read maps/have a leak/have a picnic, the back end of a queue of traffic at roadworks that's so long it's beyond the roadworks warning sign, you name it. I just haven't the b*lls any more to hammer round a corner with such a high probability of hitting something.

Much scaryer if all of a sudden there's a well camouflaged (full of hay, hanging down to the street) unlighted(!) tractor appearing in your spotlights... Travveling at 75, 2 o clock in the morning... Close call I can tell you!!!

tis true, they are lovely roads to go for a spin on but sooooo unpredictable. Too many blind corners and concealed entrances to put your foot down. You can beep before a corner but it is not always heard by fellow drivers. I have fun when I drive in the narrows but ALWAYS make sure I can stop in time if anything happens.

soo true, and also bad pot holes as the council seems to forget that they can come on country roads as well!

just to bump this we have got 2 feilds in before it started raining a few weeks back but cant get the rest in because of this bloomin weather
