I got my starter solenoid in and installed it in the car. I turn the key and nothing. I knew the battery was about dead so I charged and re-installed it after a load test (tested good). I have no power to the turn signals, dash lights or starter apparently. I can turn on the headlights oddly enough though.

I was told that in later models a type of kill switch was installed, apparently behind the cluster. Has anyone heard of this or come across it? The car now is dead and I have to pay $30 every 30 days to keep putting new temp tags on it. I've got 14 days to get it running and tested.

I checked all the fuses first and nothing. The 86 I picked up yesterday has no insulation on the firewall and it's much easier to see everything, so that's the first step today is remove the insulation that's all chewed up anyways. I can always dynamat later. I'll pull the cluster and see if I can see anything, maybe dropping the steering column to make room.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought this car in the UK and drove it all the way back to Germany and barely made it back. Turns out the guy that sold it to me was VERY crooked. No wipers or horn and it leaked oil like a sieve. The car won't pass inspection because of all this. I fixed the oil leak (seals) but now I can't get the car to start to work on the rest. HELP!

Can you flash your lights when there on? just wondering if the connections for your stalks and ignition have come loose, there connected down the lower end of the steering column. Just throwing around ideas here :D

Starter solenoid doesn't go through any fuses - if it's not working - you have not installed it correctly! Other problesm are not obviously related - you will just need to track them down one by one. Virtually all Mini engines leak oil - it hardly makes the seller a 'crook' !!

I have headlights, but nothing else, no turn signals or flashers.

If the entire underside of the car is covered in oil, the boot lid and license plate are almost DRIPPING with oil and I have to add a liter of oil every 200 miles I think that's excessive.

I'm rechecking the solenoid this morning and will be cutting the wires and installing new connectors as they're all pretty bad looking.

Well that does sound like quite a leak - but was surely obvious before you bought the car! Upside is - rust will be minimised!

Have you got the wires on the solenoid correctly in the right order. It sounds like you have got the battery feed and the cable to the starter onto the wrong terminals on the solenoid the post with all the smaller wires on it should be the one from the battery.
Good luck.

Giles.
