help with pug 806 2.0l hdi diesel needed

got a real bad rattle at tick over and really really bad over 1500rpm

now just had the fanbelt (or what ever they call it) off

and struck it up and its ok no rattles

the fan belt goes round the crank, aircon pump, power steering pump, alternator, 1 pully and the belt tensioner

put it back on and rattle rattle rattle

all the above items feel ok by hand no loose bareings not tight or loose

how can i find out witch is at fault ??????????????

Put the belt round each item and chuck the other end round the chuck of your power drill, spin em up individually (in the correct rotation) and see what rattles.

Probably the alternator................

yeh id take a punt that the bearings in the alternator are shot.

check the bottom pulley as I had a fiat at work with a horrid rattle as you reved it
it turned out to be the harmonic damper rubber was split and you could move the pully edge like the pulley was loose

it turned out to be the harmonic damper rubber was split and you could move the pully edge like the pulley was loose

and billy is the winner

£170 + vat from pug garage

tensioner would be my guess

My 306 one went twice during my ownership.

When i removed it, you could hear the bearing balls rolling around and clunking.
