Hi Guys,

How do i remove the inner cv from the drive shaft? I have the driveshaft off the car and all the ball bearings out of the cage.

I just cant get the cog looking thing off the shaft. And I am slightly worried the ball bearings are never going to go back into the cage.

Thanks for any help.

Smack it one with a hammer, with the blow going down the side of the shaft & in the same direction. Holding the shaft firmly in a vice and using a big spanner around the shaft to avoid "bruising" the joint helps.

It's held on by an internal split ring, a sharp blow should compress it and the joint will fall off (same as the outer CV). The balls shouldn't really come out but if the cage is a little worn the do fall free. Just squeeze them back through the hole - ideally in the same position they came out of.

Pot joints aren't intended to be dismantled, you should really knock them off the shaft with the boot intact. You'll need special molybdenum grease and make sure it's all spotlessly clean.

And make sure you get ALL the balls back in!

Sorted, thanks for your help guys. Its getting silly the number of times I ask a question on here, and get the response "just hit it".

Haha brilliant.

If it's worn enough for all the balls to come out easily, it probably needs replacing.
