I've slowly been compiling a list of engine numbers and associated features and I hope now got a fairly full list... but obviously not complete....

If you have anything to add then please post on the bottom of this and I will add to the sheet ( and then remove the post to keep it short and concise )

EDIT: Gold/Silver seal engine numbers, Link, Link 2.

my mini had an engine swap a long time ago and i have no idea what year it is, let alone what year the actual car is :D. the number on the tag is 12HD16 103721. i gathered that it's a 1275 and more than likely an A+ Metro, but still don't know the year. i mainly need to know so i can figure out what kind of carburator it has.

Edit: well, i'm 95% sure i've got a sealed HS4. still would be nice to know what year the engine is, though.

Hi,
I just bought a Rover Mini Carbriolet. The engine number is 12A2EF77****** and VIN number is SAXXNNBYCBD******. I believe it is 1275 with fuel injection. Registered in 01.06.93 and vehicle registration number was K*****A. What type of engine is this?
Cheers.

You will see from the list that is a 1275 injection running a 10:1 cr and should have a 3.2 Final drive, Also I would adive you editing the above information as you have just given the identity of you vehicle away...

This is the compression ratio, therefore relatively high ( good for performance ) but would recommend you run it on super unleaded, optimax or somthing like that... the extra octane rating will reduce pre-ignition ( pinking ), improve performance and believe it or not fuel echonomy.

Aite guesswork, u seem to know ur stuff, i've just seen this engine on 'bay. Advertised as a 1071

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...587#description

I was gonna have it, till i found out the head wasnt the aeg163, just a 12g940. The gearbox is a cooper 's' one with the later gears. But the engine number has me puzzled as i cannot figure out what it is the number he's given is 15L3D and i cant make head nor tail of it. Also the gearbox flange on the block looks really thin to me? A while back i heard someone talking about south african 1071's, which where non cooper 's' or something - thats all i've managed to look up, i could just be talkin out my *ahem* but anyway i'm confused, just wandering if you could make sence of it?

Dan ;)
