Hi all
I have a metro engine in my mini which is playing up, some days i get in and she drives lovely, she will pull nicely and not miss a beat, i could then go away for a few hours and come back and she drives like crap! She will miss horrendously and i will watch the rev counter bouncing up and down. On hills it sounds like shes running on one cylinder! Its so strange because i could drive to work and she be fine, weather stays the same and i drive her home and she runs terribly!
I have done a compression test which was fine, the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm are reasonably new! I was told the dizzy is an electronic one? Couldnt confirm that to be honest as wouldnt know what to check.
I think it might be a problem around the dizzy because if i mess around with the cap area she will run nicely again.
Do you think it could be a dodgy lead or something?
Cheers
Dave

Check the dizzy cap for cracks, also being a metro engine it will have electronic ignition, make sure the plug is home on the dizzy it self, and check for breaks in the wireing from the dizzy to coil.
Does it only play up when the engine is warm?

No there seems to be no pattern which is the annoying thing, I thought it was the weather to start with but even that doesn't seem to be it now! Do you mean the plug on the king lead? Ok I have got a spare dizzy cap and rotor arm which i will change, what do you mean about the wiring from the coil to the dizzy cap? The only wiring is the king lead!

If its a electronic metro dizzy then there should be a plug on the dizzy, not the cap but the actual body on the right hand side of the dizzy. Check to make sure its plugged in fully, and check the low tension wires from there to the coil.
