has the head on the drivers side got a heater tap? or is it blanked off? as if this is so, you'll need to drill it out, and fit a heater tap, this will allow water to flow through and youll have no problems, this is what i did on mine, and it works perfectly, with no over heating

Drill a couple of holes in the 'stat for a bypass, what lewis has said is fine but you will need to make sure your heater valve is contantly open, which is fine in the winter but a bit too much for the summer :).

yes it is is bloked off, so if i drilled it out for a heater tap. could i fit a water pump with a take off for a bypass hose and link it to the take off under the thermastat housing??

you wouldnt need to, as you would run it through the heater, to the small outlet on the bottom rad hose, unless ur not having a heater in your mini...

but if you ran it just through the heater you would have to have the heater on all the time no?

Drill some holes in the thermostat so you have a bypass.

You drill the hole in the bottom left corner head and put your heater valve onto it. Then you put the pipe on the left of the bulkhead that leads into the car onto the heater valve. That way you use the heater cable in the car to tuen it on or off.

You then link the right hand side pipe into the radiator bottom hose.

You dont need a bypass, if anything its good that youe havent got one as that way it wont split on you. Just drill some holes in the stat or buy a stat from halfords with the bypass in it.

You only need one 1/8" hole in the rim of the stat - just to ensure a little water can circulate. Makes for a MUCH faster and better heater - especially if you use an 88 degree stat!

How's that then? Drilling the stat means that water is always going through the radiator and therefore takes longer to get up to temp.

I didn't want a troublesome bypass between the block and water pump, so after seeking advice from here, went for a system using a sandwich plate under the stat housing, ran hose through my inlet manifold and back to a tee piece in my bottom hose. I also fitted an 88 deg stat at the same time. Now with my 2 core rad it gets up to temp in a matter of minutes and stays there

Thats what im going to do, but running it direct to the bottom hose.
