Hi to all ,
first time on here please excuse me if i make mistakes! I have also been looking at the Britpart electronic conversion kit part number ETC5835K. I emailed Britpart direct to ask them if ok to fit to a mini as most seem to go on to land rovers with the same distributor as a mini ie Lusas 45D4 . They kindly rang me back today and they told me although they do fit a mini they DON'T recommend them for small cc high revving engines they are designed for the 2 1/4 litre low revving Land rover . He said it will work but not for long and may damage the engine in high revs as timing could be thrown out.(ie i think the unit can not keep up?) As i say this has come from the people that make the units not the man in the shop trying to sell you one. Make your own minds up.I hope this is of help to any one.

Others will surely post to your thread soon about this. While you are waiting for them to chime in, please try the search feature in the upper right hand portion of this page. Search using the keyword "britpart". You will find several threads, including some that have run within the past month or so.

There are many people on this board who have installed the Britpart kit. I can only remember one person who reported problems with it. Most people who have installed it seem quite pleased with the kit.

I'm a bit surprised that the manufacturer is worried about their kit being used in a Mini.

I've commented on plenty of these Britpart threads. This is my personal experience of them

Fitted to two cars 1989 and 1990 models. They have been fitted to daily use cars for approx 2 yrs with no problems at all.
Only thing I can't comment on is the new kit , they have changed the design slightly in the last few months.

As said previously ive had no problems in my clubby estate after about 8 thousand miles. also as i work in a land rover spares outlet ive been getting hold of these for other people in the KMC and ive yet to hear any problems back.

My only thought is that they are covering there backs by saying the unit isnt suited to a non land rover engine.
surely when designing an electronic unit such as this they would match the specifications to the distributers limitations and not how often the engine is revved?

However as i said until more people come back to us and tell us of any problems they have had i wouldnt be unduly worried.

Think thats me, I tried the Britpart kit and age ago and it just would not work on my car. Fitted and it ran like I'd just throw a spanner in it. So I went back to points.

Think I still have the kit in the garage, might try it again one day with tweaks.
