Just a quick question, Have removed the head to change the gasket, the piston's have alot of carbon build up on them, can somenoe tell me the best way to get rid of it?
Didn't fancy a wire attatchment on my drill, just in case i damaged the bores in the block.
What chemicals work best?
Cheers Rob.

I'd just CAREFULLY scrape off the big lumps. Leave it round the edge of the crown as this helps to form a better seal in the bore

Smear LM grease (brown stuff) around the edge of the piston between piston and bore before you do this, so any carbon can be wiped out and doesn't land on the rings.

No problem, There will almost certainly be better ways of doing it but thats just a quick easy way of getting the job done!
Something else that might be worth doing if there is a lot of carbon build up, is to 'lap' the valves in so they form a better seal when they are closed

All the valves have been lapped and head face skim by Chris @Smart, excellent job too!

When I was a lad we made a scraper out of an old toothbrush, cut the head off at an angle and use that. Being plastic it is unlikely to damage the piston crown.
