hi guys i suppose we are all in for an experiment with the mini i was just wondering if anyone had tried having the pistons machined to form a d shape piston to fit in a long stroke engine out of a 998 engine as you will know when you fit them the piston sticks out the top of the block.i know you can have the block decked etc or the head skimmed to get the required compresion ratio or even diffrent pistons but because the d shape pistons are hard to come by i was just curious if anyone had tried this and what was the outcome.

Well all the conrods are the same (except 970), so it's just the pistons that differ.

Basically, you seem to be asking if it is sensible to increase the CR by using 998 pistons with a 1098 stroke, but doming the toop of the piston?

As long as there is enough meat on the 998 pistons, then I don't see why not.

It would be easier to fit flat-top pistons and reduce the combustion chamber volume as it would be expensive to accurately mahine and re-balance the pistons to have a D-top piston crown.
