Hi all
I am having problems starting my Mini 1000 1973. When turning over the car tries to start and fires momentarily and if i dabble the throttle it almost runs. So far i have tested the spark plugs which are sparking correctly , the fuel is coming through the points are clean and dry.
One thing i have noticed is that plugs 2-4 have quite a lot of fuel on them and 1-3 are dry.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Make sure its not over fueling? dumping to much fuel into the pistons?
i have that issue with my 1983 998cc

Gave the the carb a complete overhaul today every thing moving and flowing, the car is a little better as it does just about start and then seems to just run out of steam about 5 seconds later.

Advance the ignition timing slightly - keep going until it 'kicks' against the starter and then retard it slightly. it should start. Then check with road test that it's not 'pinking' - if it is - retard slightly more.

i had a similar problem with my car the other day, it would start run for a bit then konk out...
ive checked loads of things, and ive managed to pin it down to the fuel not getting from the float bowl to the carburettor. maybe try getting some carburettor spray from halfords to clean the jet...
does it fire if you use the choke?

I had a similar problem with my car recently and it was solved by reverting back to a standard coil from a brand new sports coil.
