Hey guys, I just replaced the valve guides on a 12g295 head. I used cast iron guides, and though opinion seems to be very much divided on the subject, I was under the impression that these would not need reaming to size. However, now that they are fitted in the head the valves seem reaaaaallly tight. I can just about insert them all by hand and i know they are supposed to be tight when new, but it seems like too much... Does this mean I will need to get them reamed?

Not reamed..... definately NOT reamed, there are a couple of ways of dealing with this type of issue, firstly do not force the valves in to the guides again ;)

find a local company that can correct them using the right tools for the job....

A reamer NEEDS at least 0.003" to work as the guides where machined as a perfect fit to the valves before fitting in the head, you will only need to take out about 0.0003" a reamer will simply "bounce" around in the hole and create more damage ;)

The better the job the longer it will last :w00t: giving you more miles per £ and less hassle :) :)
