hey, been having problems with my clutch, so i thought i would just check everything. iv just removed all the hoses ect, and the two nuts holding the MC on the bulhead and the MC has just come right off - i assume this is not correct :/

sounds like your clevis pin has come out where the M/C fastens to the pedal box

Ah, the cluth clevis pin. Arguably the very worst job on the Mini. It can help if you use an 'R' pin to secure the clevis pin instead of a split pin - that's once you get the new clevis pin into the arm/rod joint with your special long-nose pliars. If you are a 'large' person you may find it easiest to remove the seat first!.

i was gonna try and get it in from the top, keeping the clutch pedal depressed, but i guess there no room to get your finger in that small hole :)

I deployed a handy six year old that I have lying around for the purpose. He's very proud to have helped.

i used a long length of wire, got it in the hole and then pulled the top piece of wire towards me so i had a sort of horse shoe shape then i kept twisting the two ends together until the twist reached bolt and just snipped it off, worked a treat.

To tell the truth I've never really found it difficult with long nosed pliers! The hardest job I've ever done is remove the pedal box when the M/C studs have been replaced with bolts!!

Loadsa patience! Take the seat out, get a big ass torch up there, get a nice fluffy pillow and lie back and head to the top of the pedals with your hands! It aint comfortable but its not like you gotta do it everyday so suck it up solider :dontgetit: Its good to feel sometimes :D Get a second body topside with another torch to guide your way if needed.

Pliers can be a pain, you will have more movement with your hands so get fiddling :D

As above dont bother with the split pin go for the 'R' pin, will help loads if you get to that stage :D

thanks for the tips lads, just another question-

can i use a bolt with hold drilled in it instead of a clevis pin? long story just wondered if it would be a bad idea?
