So I can't afford to pay £400 for a new LH Mk3 door and was thinking of buying a fibreglass one which is half the price, but, I have heard that attaching a fibreglass panel to a metal one will compromise the strength of that panel, is that true?

I hope that makes sense,
Thanks in advance,
K.C

Fibreglass doors can be difficult to get fitting properly and can tend to flex while driving. If your budget can't stretch to new doors, have a look here for reconditioned ones. I haven't used them myself but haven't heard any bad things about them,

I really would advise against fiberglass doors, if your going for an al out race car but if for any use of the road i would defo say not to fit them.

With the fibgerglass door open on its hinges you would not belive how much it flexes.

ive got fibreglass doors on my road car, they dont flex or anything at speed, but i cant say about pulling on them when they are open, as, well, why would you even do that in the first place? i bought them from arc angels and would definately reccommend them, the fit of them is pretty darn good, if not a bit better than the steel doors i had originally. they take a little bit of time to fit up as you need to cut all the holes out in them for the handles and hinges, and you need to cut out access holes so you can fix the hinges to the doors. took me about one afternoon per door from start to finish.

for the pair of doors i think it was £220 delivered (by their own delivery van, on a sunday morning too!, handy for those who work all week)

the thing that puts me off of fibreglass doors is having a side impact.

it does cross my mind sometimes too, just need to get my backside into gear and change my rear floorpan so i can refit my cage with the doorbars in this time! i suppose its the risk you take with this sort of thing, just keep an eye on whats coming at you from the side, or it will end up in your lap haha.

I dont see the problem with door bars, if you have bucket seats, you wont even notice the bar is there because of the way you get into them.

But yer, fibreglass doors without a full cage with door bars is a no for me.
