I have a 1275 with rod change gearbox. When took my engine out last time I used the method where you leave the pot joint in the transmision but peel back the boot and leave the spider and balls on the driveshaft as the engine lifts out. When I peeled back the boot it seemd like there was engine oil in the joint. There must be some kind of seal in the pot joint to keep engine oil out and it must be this is leaking. I don't mean the rubber seal on the outside that would let oil drip, but something on the inside that keeps oil out of the pot joint itself, inside the boot. I think it is something like a freeze plug. Is there a way to reseat or otherwise reseal this point?

Well, I found the grease (which is black) will go rather liquid after a LONG time.
So, unless you got a litre coming out of them its just grease that's gone liquid. Stick an ice cream tube under it and try again. See if you get much.
