I was at my local BOC place in the week and they are now doing small bottles of argoshield with no rental, all you do is pay for the refills(under £20 as I remember)

Not sure if theres a deposit to pay on the bottle, but its gotta work out cheaper than buying the little bottles.

May well be of use to peeps??

Gotta be cheaper than renting, 60 quid a year or something! I'll look into it! Thanks!

What size bottles are they? i was about to go with Adams gas down in Kent, but i have a BOC supplier local when i had an account. Might pop in to see him later. Adams gas have a one off 50 quid bottle deposit refundable on return, so if BOC dont, i will definitely go with them again.

I'd have said they were 3x the size of the disposable ones?

I was thinking about having one as a spare, you always run out on a sunday!!

Sounds good for twenty quid. Maybe i will go with Adam gas for my main bottle and a BOC one for mobile and backup on Sunday afternoons. I do have a Pub bottle for emergencies, but its useless if there is any wind at all or you want a good weld that may not be dressed before paiting over.

I think Adams sell outright as a work round of legislation on servicing & testing bottles - they still have to test when they refill, or it could just mean it takes the cost of the bottle out of the equation. If it's a proper gas bottle it will be at much higher pressure than a disposable so even better value than its size suggests.

Looks like you are on the money with taking the cost out of the equation by basically selling the bottle to the customer for 50 quid. and at least you know that the bottles are tested on refill.

Taken from Adams website.

Adams Gas can now supply our Hobby and low user customers an anlternative to the bottle rental system bottles that have been available upto now.

We can now supply you a 9L* welding gas or helium gas cylinder on a rent free basis. Simply pay a one off bottle deposit of £50.00 on the cylinder and then just pay for the gas refills as you go.

There are no additional invoices and are ideal for customers who want to be able to do a profesional job, but do not want the expense of monthly bottle rental on cylinders that are not fully in use. Our cylinders are equivilant to 21 x 600ml disposable cylinders or 13 x 1L disposable cylinders.

They use the same regulator fittings as BOC, Air products and Air liquide
No bottle rental No enviromental charges No fees to come and collect a cylinder
The average welding time for a CO2/Argon mix cylinder is 5 hours continuous welding
We can supply you:

5% or 20% Argon / CO2 Mix (equivalant to Argoshield light or heavy) (Mig Welding)
Oxygen
Nitrogen
Helium Balloon Gas
Co2 3.15Kg
Pure Argon (TIG Welding)

Gas Refill Price
5% Co2 / Argon mix (9L)
£25.99 + vat
20% CO2 / Argon mix (9L)
£25.99 + vat
Pure Argon (9L)
£43.00 + vat
Oxygen (9L)
£24.99 + vat
Nitrogen (9L)

What was the cost for the initial purchase including vat, bottle and gas? I will probably order one on monday. and then see about a BOC one for mobile work.

£50 for the bottel, and then £35 for the gas so it was £90 all together as it was £5 for delivery. and then it is £35 for each gas refill.
