This is my latest project, it is a 1979 Mini Clubman Saloon with 30,000 miles on the clock. The car has sat under a carport for the last eight years. I purchased the car in December 2003 off a work colleague who had the car when it had 5,000 miles on it, I am the third owner. The car was not as good as I had hoped for and I done the silly thing of offering cash upfront before seeing the car. The car had never been welded and was all original. These are the pictures of the car when I first picked it up, as you can see there is plenty of rust in the usual places, holes in the floor pans, wings and worst of all rot in the roof guttering where the carport leaked.

After freeing the brakes I managed to get the car back home on a trailer. Here are a few photos just before the welding of the new panels was done (February 2005). As you can see you could put your fist through the floor pan! My next installment will show before and after pictures of all the completed panels welded on.

I also forgot the car had a brand new bonnet and passengers door skin fitted aswell. When the car was back home the car was completely stripped, all welds were ground flush, all traces of rust and underseal were removed completely both underneath the car and the engine bay and treated with a rust preservative. As you can appreciate this takes a long time and you get covered in oily muck, don't make the mistake of leaving in the windscreen when flushing the spot welds for the wings as I ruined a perfectly good windscreen! The next installment will be the same pictures but showing the areas painted and seam sealed with minor prep work done.

All the underside and arches are seam seal and primed and the engine bay painted with highbuild primer. The car was preped and sent away again to be painted in highbuild primer. When the car was back I blocked the car and fill any small dents. As you can see the boot lid has been smoothed out to.

The seam sealer was from Halfords and the rust treatment paint .It was hammerite rust beater and it kills rust and primes also loctite rust treatment
