Hey I'm not sure if anyone here is into classic American cars here but I just thought I would share a few pictures of this classic that have been helping to restore. It’s an Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 from 1960, that’s owned by my ex's dad (he's a coach mechanic by trade but has restored many Morris minors, and has a rover p5 on the go as well -- he helps me with my mini! - his name is Rob by the way - so I don’t have to keep writing my ex's dad).

Here are some pic's of what it roughly looked like when he got it, this was taken a year ago a Wheels Day in Aldershot (a very good classic American car as well as customer or any other classic car show) last year.

By this time he had already had most of the suspension components out and given them a refurb as well as repainting the chassis, though saying that we did have a few issues with the engine, as we later found out that there was a crack in the inlet manifold, luckily though there were only two 1960 dynamic 88's in England and they both happened to be in Horley, one was Rob's, the other was a guy who planned to banger race it, which was fortunate because he gave all the chrome bits to us (the irreplaceable dynamic 88 logo's are handy to have a spare of) and after he banger raced it he also let us buy the engine off of him, so we managed to get the inlet manifold off of that and now it cruises along with that lovely v8 roar that’s common with these type of cars.

This is the engine bay just after we finished rebuilding it, sprayed it in gold and black - which is how some of them came out of the factory.

About two months ago Rob got it sprayed in a mates Bothe a mile up the road from his house, (the car is quite long as you can tell from the photo's so it only just fit in the Bothe) but non-the-less it now has a lovely new paint job on it - its also an original colour of the car - Rob managed to get the original catalogues for the car off of eBay and walked into the local paint mixer's and the code on the catalogue brought up a perfect match to the sample in the catalogue.

So this is the car in its current state - it took a while to get it all back together as the chrome strips along the side had some very off fasteners that had to be shipped from the us and they took as while, as did some of the rubbers etc.. Also polishing all the chrome took along time, the grill especially but its all came up really well considering that chrome has been on there for 47 years

That’s rocky sitting there with his tongue sticking out - dappy dog

Last Saturday we got a new carpet for it and fitted it, and it really finishes of the interior nicely, though we do need to put the door cards and furniture back on and then it’s finished

Anyway that’s what I've been up to when not working on my min, hope you like it - and I hope I don’t get verbally slapped for putting a yank on a mini forum :shifty:

that thing is sexual! I'd love to get a yank-tank in a few years time, just for posing in at the least

nice car, i love old skool american cars/trucks

i have a old american chevy truck thats gonna be a life long project truck
http://s44.photobuck...joakwin/37 lsx/

take a 2800pound truck and stick a lsx 5.3 v8,with ported heads, ported tb,nice size cam, long tube headers,
no emission junk, e-fan and you got a ez 450 flywheel hp= fun to drive
and safe enuff to daily drive without problems

but its my life long project truck, belonged to my grandpa

nothing has the exhaust sound that says raw power like an american v-8
