Well i was adjusting my handbreak today, and having a look at the cable on the passanger side, and when i took the handbreak off the cable still stayed tight.

It was slack in the middle and on the passanger side, but on the driver side from the quadrant back to handbreak leaver on the rear break the cable was still on solid.

So my question is what parts could be faulty? Is it just a sized quadrant or is there something else it could be?

Have you pulled the metal notch on the cable out of the quadrant yet?

Its the original quadrant... Only just noticed now that its been stuck on. It looks a bit rusty, so would a siezd quadrant cause this problem?

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Yep definatly, get the cable off, knock the long pin out of the quadrant (it can be very stubborn and may require brut force) then give everything a good clean and rerust.

Clean out through the hole in the radius arm that the pin goes in with a thin file if you have one small enough or something similar!

Next i would replace the pin personally as they are not that much money. Also depending on the condition of the quadrant you may want to replace that too?

Specialist Components do some nice ones here as do KAD.

Two things to remeber when you refit the lot.

Firstly throughly coat the long pin and and the inside of the hole that it goes into with copper grease . This should stop it seizing up again in future.

Secondly make sure you fit the correct waved washer. Part number AWZ105 (Moss or other places) Clicky

And then connect the cable back up!

Remeber if it was siezed with the pad on the drum you will probably have uneven wear now one side to the other, or even top pad to bottom. So those will need looking at now as well and replacing if nessecery!

Hope that helps? Good luck

This can sometimes be caused by lack of Grease on The radius arm nipple, so if you hav'nt greased it for a while...take it as a warning its time!
