Hello

I have a 1995 mayfair with a problem, the handbrake is useless! i just changed the rear brake shoes and adjusted them correctly i hope! But this has not helped the problem at all. if you lean on the car it moves it, i have got my mot soon and am worried its going to fail! so how do i make it better? i heard that you shouldnt adjust the actual cable but need to adjust something down on the drum!

all advice very welcome as brakes are not my best area!

Dave

Your doing it in the correct order. Firstly adjust the shoes as you have done. Then check that the cable is free along its full length especially the quadrants on the bottom of the rear suspension arms....make sure these move freely and are not seized. When you have done this then adjust the cable and you should get a working brake.

does the handbrake come right up???
theres a shoe adjuster on the back of the drum you adjust with a special spanner...
or if it does only go half up then take the drum off and file the shoe a little bit....
where are you??/

hope this helps
