Got 2 computers and a laptop on our network. One of the computers (mine) can't seem to suss the internet for itself. It's showing it's connected and that it's got signal strength and all that blah but IE can't/won't load and my various scanning software can't connect to get updates. Any ideas?

I've already got the connection set up on the computer and I tried getting it to work with that but when I do the whole tools and connections thing, I try and set up a completely new connection and it just gives me some error message with loads of letters and numbers in it :)

Just a wild stab in the dark but when i had internet hassle on my laptop, go into network connections (on the pc with the internet connection) then click on the internet connection, go into preferences somehow then click share this connection through network or sommink like that.

Could just be rambling though. :)

hello.

is the connection wired or wireless? and do you get a good connection to the network?

if you goto start > run, type in cmd and hit ok, then in the box that appears type in ipconfig. do you get an ip address?

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

who is your internet provider?

I'm thinking a DNS issue here. had a lot of trouble with this on my network recently.

Try this: Go Start - Run and type CMD, then enter.

In the black command window, type ping bbc.co.uk (and enter)

If you get a message saying request timed out, or could not be found, try typing ping 212.58.224.131 (and enter)

If you now get a reply from the site it's a DNS problem - post back and I'll suggest a workround.

If you still don't get a reply, it's a connection issue. Do the IPCONFIG thing on one of the other computers and note the IP address, then try to ping that from your computer - hopefully you get a reply from it (if not we have a problem Houston!).

Post back when you've tried these.
