And for peoples piece of mind this shop is about 2 miles from my house and where I bought my acewell from.
Very helpful even thou it wasn't for a motorbike and great service as the magnet pick up for mine broke (well I broke it really) and they gave me a new one for free

Does anyone know how easy/hard these would be to wire into the mini?
Udo
Nov 11 2008, 12:54 PM
Requires some rewiring obviously but not difficult, well it wasn't for me and I'm not an electrician.
You also need to sort out the speedo pick up, usually on the rear wheel but again not difficult

Good find, i would be buying one if it had the fuel gauge built in...
Iv got the same unit in Snot and its really good, but its just anoying not having the fuel gauge on it.
Scrap that, hes got some in his other items, me just spent some moneys
This is the one i ordered, its got temp and fuel gauge along with all the other bits, but its got a chrome cover (that ill be painting) But a really good price TBH

the one I have bought has a built in fuel gauge Tom , same price

as the chap sells them for bikes it has a neutral indicator, but i think this could be changed.
but you could put up with it as you'd be saving around £80....

Well i had a bit of a result in the end, just before i was about to pay i got an email from ebay and they gave me a 10% off anything i buy as an xmaz prezzie, so i only ended paying £72 including postage

Yea the lights can be wired in to anything you want, they also have the bukbs in place on the ones that dont have and images on, so if you wante you could add your own little sticker/transfer...
I wont be using mine for a while, but for the price i though i might aswell buy it now lol.

Sorry, you missed me taking the *yellow human water* out of your typo! I got the same one as you in the end, so you'd definitely better not paint that Minus the same as mine or we won't be able to tell which is which!

LOL nah my current acewell was easy to wire up, and im 99% sure there is a thread on the forum somewhere how to correct the resistance for the fuel gauge

Ill have a hunt for it as some point and post it up here so its easy to find for when we all come to wire them up haha.
Oh yea and thank you very much freddy

you should be asking for a further disscount for promoting sales lol

Cool Tom, post up what you find. I'm sure I can wire everything up no problems, I mean I did put all the wiring into Jason, so a few more shouldn't be a problem! The resistance info for the fuel gauge would be useful though.
Let me know if yours arrives too, I'm excited about getting to play with it, though I can't help think I should be concentrating on getting the engine to work!

LOL well iv had mine for about a year now, so im passed the stage of minding if they are common haha.
Nah only joking they are good units and keep a very acurate speed (untill the magnetics pickup falls off

) so i would advise them to anyone

Yea if you have a basic knolege behind wiring then its really easy to wire up and it comes with a full wiring diagram, and if it doesnt you can get them off the internet...

now iv seen the chrome i think it might stay chrome as i think it looks prety nice. Defo a good buy if you ask me cheers again Freddy.

Ha ha, snap! Think mine is staying chrome too, stop copying me!! I've fired mine up with a 10v transformer, everything seems to work, though haven't tested the temp gauge or the rev counter. I'm wondering if I can fit LEDs to the spare spaces and find a use for them. One thing I'm not sure on, if I fit this 158 ohm resistor, do I set the resistance of the display unit to 100, 500 or whatever the third option was ohms?
Just need to pull my finger out and get it all wired in! (Then fix my engine so I can use it!)

I havent had a look at this one, but on my other acewell unit it has LEDs in all the places, evein the ones withought the little images, so you might be able to just wire it straight into that, have a look at the wiring iagram for it, and if these are the same there will be some wires left, but they will probably have been cut right back so its level with the black wiring cover...

I didn't get a torch either!! I'm at work, so can't check the wiring for spares, there were no wires loose and no mention of the other LEDs in the instructions, but I'll see whats under the sleeve later....

yea there was no mention of the wires or LED in the wiring diagram on my other acewell unit, ill go have a look in a min for you.

Tomf, you were right about the other LEDs. The wires go as far as the end of the main cable. I've not applied power to them though, wonder what colour they are!
I won't be fitting mine for a couple of weeks, Jason isn't on the road so there's not much of a rush. Looks like I'll be able to afford the Weber that should be the solution to all my problems in a week or so, so then I'll be fitting both about the same time.

Nov 17 2008, 10:29 PM
Tomf, i see you got the one with the water temp feature too, you been able to get it to work off the standard sensor? mine just overreads constantly. and what resistance should you set the fuel gauge reading to on the unit when adding the 157k resistor to the sender?
paulrockliffe
Nov 17 2008, 11:04 PM
I was going to ask about that, the sensor thats included has two wires to it, the original only has one. I wondered if that would make a difference, but figured it wouldn't as the second wire is just an earth. I was thinking you could get some sort of adaptor made up to fit the sensor that comes with device, ot fit an appropriate resistor?
I asked the same question about setting the internal resistance for the fuel gauge, I assume 100 ohms, but in the absence of an answer I was going to try each and see what happens, you should be able to work it out.

Mine came today, what a great little unit, and a great supplier which is pretty rare these days. Connected up the brown to the power and connected the earth and the clock comes up, but I cant get on to the screen with the tachometer etc, what else do I need to connect just to test that this mode works? I wont be fitting it properly until after crimbo.

dont you need the red aswell (i think its red) , there are 2 powers, ones a perm live, the others a key live, once you live the key you shall be cooking on gas

There are seperate earths for allt he various circuits too, think there are three, but it's all the black wires. There are two reds and a brown that go to the positive too. There are also wires for the LEDs that aren't marked on the dash hidden away in the black plastic wire shield. Have a look at the wiring diagram I reckon.
