Just thought i'd add to this thread, not been on in a while!!
Then i bought £60's worth of gaskets and fittings for the next job....
I then set about re-timing in the engine, as i believed that the timing on the vernier duplex gears i have, was far out! Turns out it was nearly at 120 degrees rather than the 108 it should have been!! 3 hours later and alot of swearing and general mess and it was sorted! A DTI and removing the cylinder head is an absolute must on this job. If i hadnt have done that i would really not have got it 100% perfect...
I was then going to get the engine started and turned over properly so i could test that i had it spot on, however with the car being left outside over the christmas period, it meant that the battery had been shot to bits. Even an overnights charge didnt help matters, it barely turns the engine over!
Bugger!
With that out of the question, i then started to have a look at the binding brakes...
It turns out through process of elimation that the calipers are seized, causing the pistons to move out but not to return back inwards. This meant that i had to strip them down and remove them. I decided to remove the pads in place and try moving the pistons back in using some pipe clamps, but this proved easier said than done. So i used some brake cleaner and WD40 to clean them up as best i could and will remove them when im back at home next week.
So i think i'm going to need at least a pair of calipers rebuilding and a brand new battery before its anywhere near being roadworthy. Keep watching this space to see if i get it all sorted! I wanted to have this done before the end of January but i think its going to be more like the middle of Feburary before it hits the road! Grrr....
