I've just got my next project. Already having issues! Anyway, after selling my Mini 6 months ago I found I was missing it despite all the little problems you encounter during mini ownership. So, today I swapped my 205 GTi for this:

The body seems solid all round and has had some money spent on it, including rust repairs. The advert was very vague with little info available and the previous owner didn't seem to know much about the mods done to the car. Upon inspection it appears to have AP brake calipers, drilled/grooved discs (not much use at the moment, read below), Spax dampers, Hi-Lo's and a stainless exhaust system, Maniflow exhaust manifold, K&N air filter.

Anyway, the brakes appear to have packed up almost completely, the pedal just goes all the way to the floor with only a tiny bit of brake pressure to stop the car. So, its off the road already :). I'll give bleeding the brakes a go, but doubt it'll do much to be honest. I have a suspicion the master cylinder may have gone, which would make sense. I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

My plan for this project is to effectively de-chav it and then strip it out, loosing as much weight as possible. Once that's done I'll be looking at engine upgrades. First jobs to do are:

- Replace bonnet with fibreglass single skin
- Replace smooth boot with standard mini boot, moving number place from under bumper to standard position
- Remove rediculous 3" stainless exhaust and put 1.75" maniflow centre exit on.
- Remove moulded arches, replace with Miglia arches or similar.
- 7.5" brake setup for front
- 6x10 wheels
- Adjustable camber

.. and more once that's all sorted.

I am selling it :) It's metal with the intake molded into it. Would swap for a standard metal bonnet too.

Thanks you two.. It's been a bit weird getting used to the whole "Haha look at that car" thing..

Good luck with it, I hope you're not changing the colour!

Orange all the way! I'm not sure what the name of the color is, but it's pretty bright in the flesh.

Might as well update while I'm here:

My brake woes should now be sorted. I've just ordered all the bits to refurb the entire rear braking system which will in turn resolve the leaky cylinder on the nearside. I've also placed an order for a Maniflow 1 3/4" center exit. Should be a bit quieter than the fart cannon that's on it now! Hopefuly the 1275 will breathe better through that. Once that's fitted it definitely needs to go on the rollers.

Another pic thrown in for good measure:

Here's what I used to drive:

Next job on the list will be to source a new bonnet and boot.

Quick update time.

Just picked up a new boot and temporary bonnet.

So, out with the silly smooth boot and in with the standard boot:

Just need to get a boot light and I can move the number plate back to correct position. Also need to pick up some bonnet pins before fitting the new bonnet. Got a some bits in the post at the moment: Group 6 arches, Suspension lowering bits and still waiting for the brake parts.

Good move on the standard boot. I can't help but feel there is no point in Minis having smooth boots since you have to go and put the number plate beneath the bumper, looks daft.

Cheers. Yep will be indeed. I shall PM you once I've got new brakes sorted :dontgetit:

Another thing I forgot on the list to do, the rear lenses need to go back to standard as well. Anyone want some clear ones in exchange for standards? Also got the bonnet with the big vent in it for sale.

Thanks Craig.

Still waiting for my Minispares order for the rear brake bits to be shipped. I've done loads of orders with them in the past and they always ship the same day or day after. Why didn't I just go to the local motor factors.. :(
