My First Engine Rebuild

ive finally started to sort out my 1275 engine for my mini tango. i bought it back in october as a replacment for my 998 as i wanted some more power, it was put in but burnt a litre of oil every day!! so i took it back out and put the 998 back in.

now ive started to stip in down to see what im dealing with, the engine is unkown spec all i know is that its 1275.

im hopping to rebuild it as cheaply as possible, and make it a good reliable road engine with abit of extra poke.

the basic spec at the moment is:

rebore +0.020" to 1293
power max or hepolite high compression pistons
276 cam
fast road distributer
standard head for now
lcb and rc40 exhaust
lightened flywheel
3:1.1 final drive.

the engine number is 12H354E-H13183 couldnt find anything about it on gessworks.

also measured the valves inlets are 35.6mm exhausts are 29mm.

as for the final drive im not sure when it was on the road it was quite uncomfortable sitting at 60, done a check on gessworks think its a 3.6 but not 100% sure i will count the teeth when i take it out.

the plan for this week is to go around the engineering companies getting prices for the machining work, finish stripping the block and checking it over.

yeah i will get the block lightly skimmed as it is looking abit messy and same with the head.

umm there is a little voice in the back of my head shouting supercharger at me but im trying to ignore it at the moment, it can always be added latter on

those prices seem pretty good, last place i went charged £40 for a basic head skim..

i cant decide if its work sending the items to a mini specialist (mra,minispeed etc) or just using a one of the two local companies..

lindy119, stop it everytime i hear it, it sounds like a better idea though my bank balance wouldnt apreciate it much

small update

took the crank and cam out, number on the end of the cam looks like HR270. hope to order some new bits later in the week once ive checked everything over

update time!

things have been on hold for a couple of months due low fundage, but know my birthdays looming i can crack on.

since the last update ive had the block, crank and pistons checked over and they are all ok, there is no problems with any of the bores so to save some money im just going to get it honed and keep the original pistons, the crank is fine just need to order some new bearings.
the cylinder head is getting some new valve guides very soon
ive got a piper 270 cam to go in aswell,

at the moment im debating which final drive to go for currently has a 3.6 which wasnt comfortable sitting at main road/motorway speeds i thinking a 3.1 or an mpi 2.7.

hope to have it rebuilt and possibly in by mid june
