Cooper 1993

I'm going to have to remove the heater and need to know, do I have to drain the whole system by taking bottom hose off of the radiator, or can I disconnect the hoses from the heater with a bucket underneath, or will the whole coolant system try and empty itself through the disconnected heater hoses, thus resulting in a flood! Cheers

Do a search for heater this post has appeared loads.

In short the whole system will empty if you don't drain it towels, buckets and perheaps a cork should suffice. Coolant will stain and damage the interior so caution required

If your coolant system hasn't been drained in a while i would disconnect by the radiator a major pain in the arse but worth it as you can then give it a good flush out and replace with new coolant your mini will appreciate it.

If you disconnect the heater hoses in the engine bay, push a bolt or piece of wooden dowel into the hose ends, you should be able to remove the heater assembly and pull the hoses through the bulkhead without loosing any water into he car. :(

yer if you disconnect the hoses in the engine bay just block off the hoses and you should be ok,

that said if you have to take the heater out its a perfect opportunity to do a coolant flush

I've just used a bowl inside the car and there's not been much coolant. Put some plastic sheeting down to help protect the carpet too.

You didn't try very hard and here's a quick guide I posted a few years back: -

Click Me

A 1993 Mini Cooper won't be that different, although the matrix hoses will probably be of the upright type and it can slide out when the screw on the other side of the casing has been removed?
