Starter Motor Noisy

i've just had a new engine built. when i came to start it the starter motor turns the engine but makes a loud mechanical grrrr noise. i hope it just the starter motor and not something more serious

any help much appreciated

i would pop the motor off the engine and check the ring gear on the flywheel to make sure the teeth arent broken or worn check by turning engine over by hand slowly, then either bench test the motor yourself or take it to an auto electricitan they will be able to tell you if somethings up with it.
