I finally got round to renenwing my hub bearings today, trouble is i split the ball joint and freed the swivel hub, but the now the hub wont come off the end of the driveshaft. So the situation now is ive got a driveshaft with a swivel hub hanging off it, ive tried banging it with a hammer, rubber mallot, it's starting to get on my nerves lol. I just don't really know what else to try I'm pretty sure the knackered bearings have locked themselves against the driveshaft thats why it wont come out.

Oh by the way I have a 2001 Cooper

Thanks guys,
Connor,

beg/borrow/steal a big bearing puller and try it that way. sounds as though the bearing races have either welded to the CV or dug some nice grooves in which they're locked into. either way i'd anticipate a new CV being needed to do the job properly.

It might not be an option but if you can manoeuvre the car next to a solid wall you could pop the hub back on the car and push the CV with a jack. Or take the hub to somewhere with a hydraulic press.

I've got the bearing puller now, but how do i actually use it, it looks like it clamps onto the disc but i cant see how that would get the hub off the driveshaft.

What it should be is a main body looking a little like a triangle. This should have a minmum of two leg's coming from it and a big bolt going through the middle of it.

The legs hook around something like the disk or the hub, If you do it on the disk you will probably have to replace the disk afterwards. With these in place the big bolt in the middle winds down onto the end of the drive shaft, therefore pressing the drive shaft out of the hub. Watch out because after you have wound this in a few turns the hub and shaft will be under a lot of presure. You would be best off winding the nut down so it is just tight, then turn it another 1 full turn. Tap it with a hammer and leave it for 10 minutes. Then wind it in one more turn and do the same. Eventually it will come out.

A photo may help us see how far you have got - in your description you have not mentioned removing the hub nut, drive flange, disc or anything else yet.
