Hi,
I have a 1970 mini 998 which has been recently purchased. Gear selection fine at start but then reverse became difficult then crunch every time. Now this same thing happening to other gears. Their is a new master cyclinder and hoses and pipes but the slave is older, looking a bit rusty on the outside.
Have bled the clutch, checked the stop which is fine but when you look at the push lever from the slave when the clutch pedal is being pressed, it goes out but then seems to retreat back into the housing even though the pedal is kept firmly down. Is this a problem to rectify and if so how? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Dan

sounds like either the master or slave cylinder is leaking past the seal... bearing in mind they are both probably 40 years old, I'd replace them ( and the pipes ) for new.

Could also be the clutch arm and plunger wear, this can cause the same symptoms because the arm will not be able to push the plunger in fully, this will mean that the clutch drags and hence crunching in to gears...... especially if it is better some days than others, as the plunger can rotate a little so that the arm is then working on an unworn section.......
