When my ol' man cleared his garden we used his toyota hi-lux to pull them up via a long length of rope.

Great fun and an intersting way to introduce yourself to the new neighbours :shifty:

Sorry, but it's hard work (clicky). Unless you're planning to grow blackberries.

Are you needing them out? can't you just use some chemicals to kill them off and let them rot away?

good luck :shifty: on a uni field trip we had to clear a load of brambles from a nature reserve. real hard work cutting out the root, and those brambles go through gloves

Unfortunately a flamethrower will only knock back the top growth and might even encourage regrowth (needs a botanical horticlter plant expert here). Even if you're concreting some of the ground the brambles may come through if you don't annihilate them. Try an agricultural supplier (eg Mole Valley Farmers type store or whatever you have in Essex) for some commercial strength killer that gets to the roots. Or get a jarful from a friendly non-organic farmer.

You have to dig up every little bit, they can't be killed with weed killer/acid etc. Try as hard as you can not to chop the roots up at all, as the tiniest bit left in the ground will re-sprout and you'll have the damn things back before you know it! Just dig around them carefully, then fill in the hole back in when you think they're all gone!
