best to get me n alex in a pub, beer in hand and we'll argue all night.

5PW - more power but ecu nastiness and loss of exup
5JJ ( i think thats what alex has ) less power - but - smooth tick-over, smoother than both my 5PW's, cleaner exelleration, and cleaner burn - and finally, much less electrical sillyness.

5PW will cost approx 750 - 1100 depending on age, condition, mileage etc
5JJ will cost approx 550 - 900 depending on age, condition, mileage etc

given the choice again - I would go with a carburettor variant - but get the best I could.

having said all that - I have a spare 5PW engine - needs rebuild but keenly priced. ;D

Well my engine is awsome! (5pw) but i paid for it!! £££££

4xv are to old if you can find i mint 5jj then buy it personaly i like the 5pw the wiring can be a pain but if you get one with everything all harness etc then get phill at pro-mo to make you a simple splice in job.

Its the same old saying you get what you pay for! dnt go to breakers! get ur self on R1 forum & ask sum Q's etc you should find a nice spare engine lieing around

enjoy the fun! it all pays off in the end!

YAYYYYY!!!!!! YAYYY!!!!!! youve seen the light!!!

4XY is what im running at the moment, i disagree with basky about it being too old, mines done a hell of alot of miles and ive had no problems with it atall! *touch wood*. unlike martins low milage 2003 5PW's he's been though :shifty:

Also, i wouldnt plan to rebuild these engines, they will run for ages and ages, just treat them as disposable if they go, and sell them on as parts. You going to pay 500 for 160bhp... minter

In promo kits so far the carb models have struggled below 5krpm, because the jets have been drilled out to 2mm which is too big, paul took his to SMMC and after a dyno session found 1.6mm jets will give you great drivability and good power (still bigger jets than standard).

One more thing, i cannot begin to describe how nice darren grasby and phil jennings are to deal with, they are the most friendly, supportive guys ive met, whom seem to stop at nothing to help out.
And i no that anyone else who owns a kit will agree!

Conclusion
expect to spend 6K on the project
go for a 5JJ if you want a simple lump with lots of power
go for a 5PW if you want 4bhp more
go for a 4XY if there is a cheap one around
