of the different manufacturers?
I am having a discussion with a mate,l he reckons Mini motors are between 8.7 and 9.5:1, but I am sure that MG motors are upto 10.5:1?
Anyone?

The MG (non turbo) Metro was 10.5/1 - and some of the later 'economy' 998 engines were also good high compression - again 10.5/1 I think. Why do you ask ?

A mate swore blind that the service manual CD told him that none were above 9.5 :erm:
I was sure I had heard some were 10.5:1 but he refused to accept it. Thanks for clearin that up, and for proving me right

Cooper S's and Austin/Morris 1300 GT's ran high compression (11 stud heads), but not too many modern cars do because of the cr**y low octane unleaded petrol they have to use...

In fact most modern engines (in UK) are up at 10/1 compression ratio - but they have 'knock' sensors that constantly advance and retard the timing to make the very best of the fuel.
