I'm now taking out the engine of my '94 Sprite and I have noticed the links between the inlet manifold, distributor and thermostat. I intend to exchange the engine for a kit and fit stage 1 bits with a new exhaust. (the car currently has a rotten Peco exhaust and no cat)
I was wondering if discarding these links will cause me problems elsewhere apart from at MOT time!
I'm thinking that the dizzy will need sorting? but am I missing something?
Cheers

You need to keep the dizzy one connected.

'Links' as in small tubes which run between the three areas as described.
If I keep the Dizzy one connected, what else should it be connected to and what is it doing?
Thanks

The 1 between the dizzy and the carb is the vacuum advance pipe, alters the timing as you accelerate. There will be another one from the inlet manifold to a brake servo if you have one.

I guessing other one is the water temperature sender?

You need to get the company making your engine kit to provide proof of age for the block they are using. Your MOT tester will then carry out emmissions tests based on the age of that engine rather than the car. So if the engine is from before '92 there is no need to use a cat or any other emissions equipment.
The other pipes you are talking about are parts of the evaporative loss system I believe. They use vacuum to open the charcoal canister purge valve when the coolant has reached the right temperature.

As above - I doubt you could make it stick that you had an SPi engine pre 92. But fitted with carbs - yes. So (wink wink) be sure to get a pre 92 engine when you get the exchange.

So with a 92 SPI do you have to have a cat? because my brothers is a 92 SPI and it dont have a cat because when ordering its Stage1 the guy said you didnt need one because it was before 93?
