My boyfriend helped me fit my new chrome grill to my mini and after having bought the old one home to stick in the garage, i noticed like a backplate thing which is riveted to the old grille - is this supposed to protect the engine or something? should i rip it off and attach it behind the new grill?
cheers

no sure what you mean, there is a metal frame to which all the slats are riveted which is part of the grill. or are you talking about some sort of plastic shielding ?

Mine hasn't got anything like that!
Is your new one jsut the chrome slats on a metal frame? because thats all you'll need!
(plus the plastic water guard on the inside.)

That's just the built in spray shield which is part of the black grille, chrome ones never had it for some reason. Don't worry about it, as long as you have the plastic water shield in it will be fine.
