My girlfriend has a 1990 racing green and that's classed as a checkmate. (think it's that anyway) This is from the second batch of racing green and flame reds (and checkmates), and they are all the same bar their colour. I don't think it makes a great deal of difference and every insurance company wants to call it something different too.

I think they have just given the batch of cars a generic name and then left them as that, as colour is stated on the V5 too.

Hope this helps, i just seemed to have waffled

aha my insurance and V5 both say mini racing only the v5 says mini racing-flame

do they have any stage 1 engine mods as standard(the mini racing that is) or just a standard 998cc?

It is either a Racing Green or a Flame. DVLA were rather special when it came to this as so many models were about. I heard they used the 'Racing Flame' to link the two as they are the same year.

I've read it was a cost cutting measure by Rover. By classifying the Racing Green/Flame Red/Checkmate as one model they only had to pay to type approve one model, or something along those lines. They are, to you and I, three different models, all of the same spec.

mmm, not sure this info is actually going in :P

the fact is, you either have a Racing Green a flame red or a checkmate.

or if you own one of the first generation cars (yes, they were released twice) you either have a Mini Racing or a mini flame, these were launched along side the mini sky and mini rose witch actually have sky/rose on the V5's

there is no such car as a racing flame its just the group name they were registered under.

if yours is red then you have a mini flame or a mini flame red, keep insisting is a racing flame and you just make yourself look stupid

check out the brochures here

A car only ever has one registration mark and that mark is given to a model "Racing Flame"
