Hey all,

I've seen a Metro A+ 1275 Engine & auto box for sale. Can you tell me what would be required in order to change my 998cc A+ Auto, for the Metro Engine...

Is it easier than I think, especially as I already have the Auto Subframe ( been told they are different from the Manual )

Engine/gearboxes should be straight swap as they're physically similar in size - if not the same size.
You will need to change the radiator plumbing (hoses, thermostat housing, etc) from the 998 unit if the 1275 is Metro sourced.
Also you will need to change the Mini engine/radiator mount to the 1275 unit.
Not sure about the carb/manifold set up (my son's auto manifold states 1275cc on it and my 998 manual manifold has 998cc on it). You may need to get the right manifold and downpipe to fit.
Also the carbs may be different (Son's 1992 Auto uses HIF carb and my 998 uses HS carb).
Heater take off hose may be blanked off on the Metro unit (Left hand front as you look at the engine). It needs drilling out and the Mini heater take off fitting.

You are correct in the subframe being different. The auto subframe is wider to accomodate the auto gearbox. People do exchange the auto engine and gearbox to a manual engine and gearbox by placing 3/8" spacers between the engine mounts and the subframe. (Manual and auto engines are different as well).

The whole car is actually available, so I could get the full carb, manifold, etc from it then just replace the down pipe. I have a new Stage One kit on my mini at the moment, so the exhaust may be ok ? Not sure though.

Thanks for all the info. Feel more confident now !

Im not 100% about this but the gear selector may be different.
If you have the whole car, check to see if you need to swap your old one.

Does anyone know any decent garages or if somewhere like MiniSport, would do the job for me if I took my mini and the metro to them.
Both have MOT and Tax so can get both anywhere, just to get it done right would be great.
They'll be able to take anything needed from the metro as they go along.
