I have a 67 mini MKII but I think it has a 1275 motor Engine number 12H something. The car was rebuilt by another and I purchased it recently. The problem I am having is a misfire on the third pot. I have checked and replaced the plugs, checked and tested the bougi cords. I am now a little confused. Indications are that the problem is distributor related.

But to my knowledge the distributor would either work or not work. It is mechanical after all. Why and how would it cause a misfire on just one piston? Anyone have any ideas?

Are the points returning to their original position correctly?

The distributor spins and looks absolutely fine, The problem being a weak spark on the third piston. I have driven junk most of my life (about 20 years) so have seen many strange things. This has them all beat.

could you rotate your cap 180deg, move the leads round and see if this moves the misfire to a different cylinder?

if it does id guess you'd need a new cap. if not id check everything at night for blue sparks where they shouldnt be.

check that the conections on the dizy cap are ok not oxidised, check that the cap is in the right posision, make shore that the ht leed is not bent or melted as this can stop a good spark try replaseing the points. i had to try all this and more when mine waws off on 2 and it turned out to be that i managed to put the timeing out. so i would check that too.
