Whats the best way to insulate the float chamber? I can't restart my car when its warm without allowing the float chamber to cool in some way. Is exhaust wrap the only thing i can do? Does anyone else get this problem?

Cheers Jimbo

Do you still have the (useless) steel heatshield?
Dads MG has the same problem, with twin HS4s. His (asbestos) heatshield has gone, but my old MG was fine as it had some of it still remaining.

Between the carb and the manifold there should be a steel plate. Some carbs have a return spring attatched to it. This is the heatshield for the float bowl. Is it there?

I would guess so, but I only play with HS4s. Get a piece of steel sheet 91mm is plenty) and cut a shape that is useable. You would need to drill/ mill a hole in it the same size or bigger than the carb inlet. A HIF 44 is 1.1/2 inch I think. You need to get that lined up with the inlet THEN drill holes for the bolts in the right places.
OR, you could buy 1
Just googling for one now.

Yea i'll try to make a shield, and for future knowledge its a 1.3/4 carb.
Its just i looked a bit silly today when it wouldn't start in the petrol station and i needed to push it out of the way!!!
