in halfords they sell 80a fuses and fuse holders

i think it's normally for ICE on a second battery

check the fuse rating on your links but these might be able to replace your broken one

and well done for finding it, it would be a shame to break your car now after all the hard work Crocks put into it

Guess what!!

I found the problem, :D

i've pulled all the wiring loom apart. pulled all protected casing off.... halfway up the loom waaas a fuse link!! A broken one!!

Thank you sprocket!! :D

Where can i get a new one? will halfords do them and are the easy to refit?

No Problem :mrcool:

I hope you didnt think I was getting stroppy, lol, erm, well, I was a little :P but that was only because I could see where the problem lay, sorry if i came accross as a grumpy mother hubbard >_< Its not how I do things:P

I have had these looms entirely appart into their individual wires so I know the wiring fairly well off the top of my head, its the way I am. I have built four engine looms that replicate the standard SPi looms, but with added wiring for the programable ECU and, at the current time an adapted version for the 16v engine. All these plug into the original body loom.

I had a feeling it was the fuse link, but you say it was a broken wire. what we all have to be aware of is that these cars are getting one for 14 years old, which is well beyond what any manufacturer designs things for. Its basic wear and tear, daft as it may sound, wiring does 'wear' as such. the vibration the wire is exposed to over the years work hardens the copper wire strands, much in the same was as you can bend and break the handle off a spoon. It just takes a long time.

You wont find those Hypalon fuse links, I have tried everywhere, and it apears it was only rover that used them. Best to fit a fuse of the normal type, a little awkward but better than just wire, that could be a fire hazard. Having said that, if the fuse link is OK, re use it and replace the damaged wire :)

Glad you got to the bottom of it.

so do an in-line fuse into the connection? 80 amp as Bungle suggested? ~I know you can get 100 amp fuses as i've seen em on halfords site.

Blade or glass? sorry to be annoying...

at the moment its only been connected with a crimpped connection. Battery is disconnected as a precaution...

Nice one Roo. I think 80A is going to be a tad excessive, though isn't it? Just make sure you fit an inline fuse of equal value to the link, otherwise it would be a fire hazard in the event of a short.

Good luck!

Thankies... Downton suggest a 32 AMP fuse...

THey've never heard of a fuselink ever going on a mini so a bit pointless them being there but...

I'm Gonna try and put the old fuselink back on first then go inline fuse road... will be running her without until the weekend tho.

Blade fuse FTW! And persoanlly I would cut the broken wire out roo (or cut it off at the starter end) and fit a nice new bit of wire too.

I will give you all the bits you need if you want, got them laying in the shed - you only have to say and it will be in the post.

Did you not replace the wire as well lil lady incase it goes again?? Don't like the idea of these exploding wire/fuse thingies that was all.

Or maybe I just like to use my hands and make things
