I`m after a primer I can spray between lapped joints before welding, then cover my welding and bare metal. Wont be spraying the car for a couple of months yet.

Been round a few of the local car shops asking but they all seems to employ monkeys with no idea about there products. I was recommened U POL 1K etch primer "Acid #8" from halfords. On the can it says Flamable, harmful ect. Will it do the job and can I weld through it with out fear of killing myself :blink:

Also When Its all welded up its going to need a full respray inside and out, engine bay, boot, doors and bonnets / flip front in Inca yellow with black roof, black sills and rear valance. I`m going to do most of the prep work but want the final prep and Spray done professionally;

Can anyone give me a ball park cost and poss somewhere nearish Leeds where I could get it done. Not going to be for a couple of months but I know spray shops have long waiting lists.

Cheers Guys

For the primer you need to ask for zinc-based weld-thru primer, i think its #4 **not #8*** in the same series and comes in a green can. Other brands available, best price ive found is from frosts. Spray it on the bare metal and weld as if its bare metal. I wouldnt weld stuff thats covered in etch primer....good luck with it

we use zinc primer in work for over lapping panels, you can spot weld through it but mig welding burns it off. if you mig the panel, spray "acid 8" the bare metal, then weld what you want, then cover all bare metel in "acid 8" this should protect it enough for a few weeks. as for a spray shop, call a few places, get a guote, and if you want a A1 job done, drive past there site slowly, and look what kind of cars they are doing, most places that do prestige cars are spot on. a rough price would be around £600- £800 for what you want.

hope this helps
