just thinking about it, i had an earlier post about my load induction noise (very loud, even with the felt sound lining). i am going to assume thatby taking the bulkhead plate off, the noise will become louder. is it a case of putting extra felt in on the interior side of the bulkhead and stuffing the pod with some felt? i also have spare loft insulation kicking around which i could use?

I'm just doing this conversion and just want to say thanks to everyone who's had input into this thread, even if it was quite a while back! It is proving extremely helpful.

It's threads like this that make this forum a really excellent resource!

Mike.

Just a warning about bulkhead blanking plates and centre mounted instruments.

My '72 Mini with the original oval instrument housing didn't have a bulkhead blanking plate so I thought I'd fit one to keep the noise down. I made one but had to put a bulge in the plate to clear the rear of the indicator bulb holder (top green lamp on the speedo). The rear end of the bulb holder sticks out further than the mounting surface of the plastic oval housing and if a flat blanking plate is used the bulb holder will touch the plate. Most of the bulb holders on the speedometer housing are negative earthed, but the indicator holder is actually insulated and the holder is not earthed. You don't want this to touch the cars body shell.
