Ive been told that my 1293cc just has a standard camshaft, to get more power/torque i was told that another camshaft would be better fitted, is this true?

we have a metro camshaft sitting around would this make much difference, or would it be best to buy a fast road cam?

Lora, I had a 286 cam in my 1293! was lumpy as hell around town but once you opened it up it flew!

If you are looking for good all round drivebility and power is not your main course then the 266 cam is what you want. the 276 cam starts to get a bit lumpy on the idle and the 286 duration cam is very lumpy on idle and power band is a little higher in rev range but has oodles of torque when you get it going, its not the best around town or M6 carpark traffic

You would see a far greater improvement with a fast road cam than you would with the metro camshaft. After all a metro would just be road, not exactly fast road :wink:

I guess what cam you use depends on how you plan to drive the car. Mine is a street car and I wanted lots of low-end torque in preference to one that doesn't come on until you wind up the engine. On Keith Calver's recommendation I tried the Swiftune-SW5. I like it more than my stock cam. The car idles very well and pulls nicely right from tick over. I don't wind the car up much past 4k RPM so I can't tell you where it runs out of steam. It's a nice cam for the street.
