Side note: Was thinking of getting both my minis RR'd at MLM when they are sorted. Will definitely now!Or try phoning MLM in kent and asking AC Dodd what he suggests. He is a real top quality A series tuner and an expert with SU needle profiles.

Thats wierd, because the 94 mayfair we had, had only two diagonal bolts on th HIF38
No, what's wierd is that by '94 all Mini's were injection. Just a home-built engine using the HS4 manifold instead of the HIF4 / HIF38 one.

Eh no. Car was bought in march 1997, was registered in march 1994, had one owner from new, only done 8500 miles, full rover service history and a wad of receipts. So, still a HIF38 with two mounting bolts on a HIF38 cast iron manifold, with a Cat as well.Thats wierd, because the 94 mayfair we had, had only two diagonal bolts on th HIF38

Now you have to ask yourself, when in 94 did rover produce minis with the injection engine. It wasn't january 1994 because we bought a march 94 carb so it was either march 94 or later that it changed and not just 94.

Don't disagree with anything you've said Mini Sprocket, but the date it was produced and the date its registered can be very different.

Well I could of course be very wrong but all that suggests to me that your car was actually manufactured early in 1992. The HIF38 was introduced to the Mini during 1991 but the correct HIF38 manifold was not available until the middle of 1992, and the carb cars were fitted with cats as standard from early 1992 when the emmisions rules changed. Your car could be slightly older in that it could be the optional cat which was fitted to some cars before they became standard. It certainly wouldn't be unusual for an early nineties Mini to languish in stock for two years before being registered. 1992 was just after the re-intorduction of the Cooper, and standard Mini's still weren't cool enough to be hot sellers. Most cars being sold were Cooper's.
Check the boot lock mechanism, the date on that is the closest to the date of manufacture that you'll get anywhere on the car.

Its true for all cars, if theres not the demand for them then they're locked away till there is. Unsold stock can sit for years.
