Basically vauxhall zafiras have a known alarm problem where the alarm battery, runs out very quick. When it runs low it bleeps and chirps non stop until eventually the horn starts honking, lights flash and the alarm sits there chirping and bleeping all night!

We've had this problem before and it cost about £200 to replace the said battery about a year ago, which is an absolute joke considering vauxhall know the problem so well, that the second you ring and say the word alarm, they can tell you exactly what it is and admit its the most common fault on the car.

Anyway, i can't remember how we stopped the alarm chirping last time. I'm sure we managed to stop it going off overnight so we could get it fixed the next day.

I'm in work early tomorrow and can't afford to sit up at my window all night pressing the key fob every 10 seconds!

Anybody else know what to do to just disable it temporarely? Don't think disconnecting the battery will do much because its the back up battery thats running low, and leaving the car unlocked doesn't help either...

Pull the fuse out the fuse-box? (thats what i did on our corsa when it kept going off)

Zafira's are crap.

When ours is a bit low on petrol, if we park it on the other side of the road (we're on the flat but there's a camber) so the fuel cap is facing towards the pavement. The useless thing cuts out and twice I've had to push it over to the other side of the road before it'll run again!

I thought fuel injected cars had their fuel tanks under pressure or something?

Okay it's our fault for letting it run a bit low on juice, but it's a problem that's never occurred on our Mini.

I’m pretty sure if you turn the ignition on for a few seconds and disconcert the battery within 15 to 20 seconds the alarm doesn’t get a chance to go off.

Most people remove the siren and bin it (underneath the drivers side wheelarch liner). The alarm will still work properly but just flash the indicators and sound the horn.

The battery normally lasts 5/6/7+ years tho..

You could just leave it, it will shut up in a few days and you'll never hear it again.

Incidentally, you can replace the internal battery in the sounder unit if you're clever, it's only a simple battery available from Maplins etc, have to cut the unit apart though but it's perfectly doable.
