I was just wondering how people are finding the new classified section?

Personally I think that it feels too divided/sectioned and the atmosphere of the old selling system has been lost. Before you could easily browse through a few topics and the new hot topics would be at the top and discussion between the seller and buyer was easier as it is the same format as other parts of the forum making it much easier for new people to the forum. Searching for things using the search tool part of the forum worked well with the old system and I find with the new the search doesnt find everything related to the search.

I think the new classifed layout may have worked well if it was put into the "Mini cars and projects for sale" section and the parts area left as it was.

I understand the old section did need a lot of attention and work in keeping it running with moderating and so on but I think it was better than it currently is now.

Right now I feel put off putting things up for sale in the new section, I know there are more people who feel the same.

What are your thoughts?

I happen to agree with greasy, I by far preffered the old system, although I do like some bits of the new design such as the postcode feature.

Personally I like it.

It works well for me. The postcode feature is a god send and saves your trawling through peoples descriptions and/or user profile to find there location.

I like the separate sections for cars, as not everyone is after a roundnose mini so that helps people who want a clubman etc. If your after engine parts, you goto the engine section. Doddle.

You say the banter type is lost between the buyer and seller? Why, your having the same conversation just not in public view of everyone else on the forum. It reduces un-needed comments on for sale items, makes things easier to read and find, you can tell when a product is for sale or sold within seconds, rather then dragging through 4 pages of "chat" between potential buyers and the seller.

I know people dont like change, but we could have gone the other direction........moderator preview all for sale/wanted ads when listed and close the topic so all contact was via pm? Other forums have done this.

Food for thought,
Jordie

some good features, but again, prefer old style, keep the forum simple and basic, like the mini XD

I must say the new classified is not all negative, there are some very good features of it that have been mentioned by you Jordie such as the Postcode which is very handy indeed and the seperation of body types.

I think having the format as before was better for banter between the seller and buyer/s as it allowed the buyer to give any updates and asking questions in public would answer questions other buyers may have or someone could maybe learn something from the questions asked. I know there is a comment section in the new classified but again it is not as easy as it isnt in the same format as the other parts of the forum.

I like it but it just seems so distant from the rest of the forum. Likes its isolated, a new site or somthing. Maybe a little "in the previous 15 minutes x have visited y" would make it seem a little bit more "homely"?

Its brilliant when searching for things, but a nightmare trying to post ads. I really dont get on with that side of it at all :(. Dont like the limited number of days an item is listed for either, unless its been changed.

Also for example in the engine section your finding a whole classified advert for something small like a engine steady where as before you could have a topic related to all the engine parts you have rather than having to list everything individually. This makes it tedious as you have to trawl through adverts for single items.

I m not a fan infact I dont even bother to look in there now
to be honest the old way was better but without loads of pointless stickies :(
but hey ho I dont care I dont need much I just check the ebay links section now :dontgetit:

I think my main gripe is since I am not looking for anything in particular there is no point looking as there are too many sections to find something that might be interesting

I love it

And I love the man who made it

:(

I do think it would be good if there were less steps. . .hmm that doesnt make sense.... like, when I go back to view my advert, I have to go to Classified, then other, then search for mine...but I suppose thats what you do on Pistonheads and other sites

As I say I love it and the inventor

If you goto classifieds and are logged in, you can click "my ads" at the top left area of the screen and find all your ads in one click.
